Infrastructure
The department has adequate class rooms with required facilities to enable the students to have the conducive environment for their study. The students are being taught through modern teaching methods. The department has a separate lab with 50 computers for the students to gain knowledge on computers. The department also has two computers, a LCD, OHP which helps the staff members in effective teaching.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES

Report on Comercio'16                                                                                                                        

            The Department of Commerce (GEN. Shift I & Commerce ( BM & CS) organized an Inter collegiate Technical meet, - Comercio'16 on 26 th . Aug.2016. Dr. Joseph Xavier Dasaian, Practice Director, UST Global, Chennai, inaugurated the meet with his inaugural address where in he highlighted the importance of commerce in everyday life. Corporate Roadies, Corporate Devil, Rural- le –carte, Face painting and Vilambaram were the events organized.
It was a healthy competition in which nearly 420 students actively participated from 36 various colleges in and around Chennai. Students of Loyola College – Shift I, Chennai, bagged the Overall Winners Trophy securing the maximum points in the events held. 

 

 

•  The department organized one day workshop on the topic “ ENTREPRENUERIAL DEVELOPMENT” on 5 th February 2016 for the Third year students. Dr.A.Vijaya kumar Founder and chief mentor I.N.D.I.A. trust and Mr.Emayavarman Founder and Director Mindmap enterprises private limited were the resource person for this session.
•  One day workshop on the topic “ TIME MANAGEMENT ” on 6 th February 2016 for 1 st and 2 nd year students. Ms.Maria Callanan, Penial English club founder and Corporate trainer conducted the training session. Consumer awareness programme was organized on 11 th January 2016 and Dr.Vijaya Thilagam,Deputy Commissioner Civil Supplies, Tamilnadu was the guest of honor.

GUEST LECTURE

A session was organized by the Department of Commerce (BM & CS) on the topic “Tips for Safety Banking” on the 23rd, June, 2016.  Mr. Santhosh, Assistant Manager, Safety operation, Axis Bank, South Region spoke about the various fraudulent activities prevailing in the present scenario and also explicated the safety measures to be taken in relation to the usage of ATM. He explained how the people get deceived by the cheaters in the usage and larceny of the PIN of the customers. He gave umpteen ideas to obtain security against the potential thefts that happens targeting women and elderly people at large.

A session on women's health was arranged for the girl students of the department of Commerce (BM & CS) on the 15 th July, 2016. The resource person Dr. Bharathi Ravishankar, Senior lecturer, Department of Biotechnology, addressed the students on various issues in relation to the health and hygiene of the women folk. She pointed out the various causes and remedies for the most common disorder in women called the PCOD. Several foods to be avoided such as corn flour, synthetic food colouring, junk foods, carbonated drinks and foods to be taken such as leafy vegetables and fruits , food rich in fiber, sea food, grape fruits and food rich in vitamin C were listed out. The resource person insisted on the fact that women being the strongest creation of God, should take complete care of themselves to develop their own self and their surroundings.

Rev Biju George, College Chapelin, gave a motivational speech on the topic “Move to change” for the final year B.Com ( CS & BM) students on the 18 th July, 2016. It was an hour motivational talk wherein he spoke about the move that is in need for the boys to make a change in themselves and the outside world as well. To make it best understandable about life's satisfaction, he quoted a teacher who, with pride and pomp mentioned that she would not need even a jiff of change in her daily activities even if it was the last days of her life. He insisted on having a focused approach and being self confident It was an enthralled session where in the students felt the vibe and motivated.

•  Ms Yogalakshmi K Manager-Academics relations IITM group of institution conducte training session on“ group discussion and interview ” on 24 th August 2015.
•  Mrs.Chitra, Deputy director ICSI gave a lecture on “ Company's Act 2013 amendment ” on 11 th January 2016

EDUCATIONAL TOUR

Students of III B.Com(BM) and III B.Com(CS) went on a educational tour to Bangalore and Cochin respective. In the tour they visited factories in Coorg and Munnar

EXTENSION ACTIVITY
The students of final year B.Com Corporate Secretaryship, took lead in addressing the students of ‘Besant Theosophical Higher Secondary School’, Arundale Nagar, Chennai and the ‘Municipal Middle School’ Vinobha Nagar, East Tambaram on the Topic, “ Consumer Awareness” on March 20th, 2017. The rights of a consumer, his powers and duties, the ways a consumer is been cheated, methods to overcome, were briefed to the students. It was an interactive session wherein the students triggered many questions and got them explained and clarified in a simple and lucid manner by our students.

 

The extension activities of this academic year are again a feather added to the cap of the department.

Paper Presentation

Mrs.S.Senthamizh selvi Assistant Professor of our department faculty have Presented the paper on “ financial inclusion and its development in India ” in the UGC sponsored two days national seminar on the “ Cooperative Movement And Rural Financing India ” organized by Department of Commerce, St.Stephen's college Pathanapuram Kollam, Kerala on 10 & 11 th August 2015.
Mr.Neethikumar has presented the paper in the National Conference on The Impact Of Digital Management In Modern Business Scenario Coducted by S.C .P JAIN COLLEGE MINJUR, CHENNAI ON 30 th JAN 2016, on the topic “ A study on perspicuous advertising directed to teenagers ; a look at the parents point of view. Awarded Third Place.

Mrs.L.Esther Thamarine attended National Level workshop on Research Methodology organized by Tagore College of Arts and Science on 26-28 th Feb, 2016.
Mrs. G. Jaya and Mrs. Hepcy Prasanna attended Workshop on Stock Market operations on a Efficent Market Hypothesis organized by Loyola College on 7 th March, 2016.
Mrs.G.Jaya attended a workshop on'Company's Act 2013-Heralding New Era of Corporate Governance” Organised by University of Madras in association with Southern India Regional Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India on 7 th April,2016.
