The department was established in the year 2000 and presently has around 600 students. It aims at producing graduates who are abreast of the development in their professional calling. Faculties of the department regularly publish papers in International / National Journals and also publish books. They also deliver lectures and act as a Chairperson in various conferences and workshops. The Department has sophisticated well-equipped laboratories with internet facilities and the latest software updates.It is a nodal department for all the computing facility in campus.

ICT Academy is an initiative of the Government of India in collaboration with the state Governments and industries. ICT Academy is a not-for-profit society, and a joint venture under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model.
ICT Academy was started to meet the skill requirements of the industry and generate more employment, especially in tier 2 and 3 towns, the rural parts of the country. The organization was formed with representations from the State Government of Tamil Nadu, leading companies in the ICT industry, and the National Association of Software Services Companies NASSCOMin India.
