Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese

Ph.D

Chairman, Hindustan Group of Institutions

Chancellor, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science

Leadership is the capacity to transform vision into reality”  - Warren Bennis

It is precisely the combination of a bold vision with the ability and will to transmute the vision into reality that has enabled the Hindustan Group of Institutions to flourish under the leadership of Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese. He is an Educationalist, Aviator, Thought Leader and Philanthropist.  The Hindustan Group of Institutions comprises of

  • KCG College of Technology (Autonomous)
  • Hindustan College of Arts & Science (Madras University)
  • Orient Flights Private Limited (Mysuru)
  • Hindustan International Schools (CIE & CBSE),
  • Hindustan College, Mysuru (Affiliated to University of Mysuru)

For over 28 years, his inspiring leadership has been the decisive factor that saw the Hindustan Group become a globally recognized brand in the field of education. The preparatory step in the making of Dr Anand as a leader began with a B.S. in Engineering Management from the American International University, London in the year 1993. In the subsequent year he pursued his M.B.A. at Huron University, London. Later, recognizing his contribution to research & development, he was conferred Honorary Doctorate by the renowned Dongguk University, Seoul, South Korea. He completed “Leadership Management Programme” at University of Oxford, United Kingdom and “Harvard Presidential Leadership Programme” at Harvard University, United States of America.

Dr Anand Jacob Verghese formally took over the reins of Hindustan Group of Institutions after the sudden demise of his father in 2006. His first achievement was the conferring of University status to the Hindustan College of Engineering by the Government of India in the year 2008.  With this a long-cherished goal of the late founder Chairman Dr KCG Verghese was fulfilled. Since then, he has forged significant international alliances and collaborated with reputed research oriented educational institutions all over the world, ensuring the students gained impactful exposure to emerging trends and cutting-edge technology.

Long before our Honourable Prime Minister spoke about Start Up India, and Made in India, Dr Verghese was promoting the entrepreneurial mindset through Entrepreneurship and Innovation Cells and Technology Business Incubators on various campuses of the Group.

These institutions were also among the first to set up language laboratories for foreign languages, invite industry collaboration, and offer digital courses. He has travelled extensively to USA, Europe, UK, Asia, Africa, Gulf, and Russia to promote educational partnerships.

Even as Dr Verghese steered the institutions of higher learning, he became increasingly aware of the need to offer pedagogy of the highest quality to school going children. Realizing that, to quote Alvin Toffler, “the illiterate of the future will not be the person who cannot read, it will be the person who does not know how to learn,” he knew he had to inculcate the thirst for learning at a young age. Impelled by this vision, he went on to establish three international schools in Chennai.

He strongly believes that students of all ages must be equipped with the skills, and knowledge necessary for successful growth; at least, they must be given every opportunity to do so. From moulding young minds, to skilling competent professionals, and enabling future leaders, Dr Anand Jacob Verghese’s work has impacted the lives of many, as the numerous alumni scattered across the globe will testify.
