Best Education Institute

The Department of Social Work was established in 2018, under the affiliation of the University of Madras with an undergraduate course, Bachelor of Social Work. Today, the Department widens its array through the post-graduate course in Social Work. At the undergraduate level, the objective of this programme is to prepare the students to cater to the needs of the community through its pragmatic approach of learning. Hence, the department advocates not only the professional growth of students but also encourages them to be a responsible individual. Apart from the state and rural level exposure, the students are trained to expertise in the international forum with the internship programmes in Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The department periodically conducts various workshops, conferences, webinars and guest lectures to hone the skills of the students.

1. Why to choose Social Work as a career alternative?
Social work is a professional degree which equips the students to understand various methods, values, principles and practices of social work in different settings. It make students more confident, compassionate, creative and to be more socially responsible towards people in the society.
2. What are the different courses offered by the Social Work Department?
The department offers Under Graduation and Post Graduation in social work. Bachelor of Social Work is a professional under graduate degree course, which aims at providing quality education in the area of social work. It is a three-year course consisting of six semesters with field work practicum, an experiential component of the social work program, with student observations of social agencies, hands-on learning and other experiential learning throughout the students’ academic career.
3. What are the eligibility criteria to join Bachelor of Social Work course at Hindustan College of Arts & Science?
Students should have passed the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary or equivalent examination, in any group with working knowledge of Tamil. Candidates from Boards other than Tamil Nadu State Board, CBSE, ISCE, Private study and Open Schooling must produce an Eligibility Certificate from the University of Madras.
4. What is the course module?
The course module is comprehensive and has papers varying from social sciences, sociology, psychology, economics, political science, public health, community development, and law. The course module includes the Languages & English with Core Papers and Field Work Practicum Refer the syllabus copy for more information.
5. How different is the course offered at HCAS compared to other colleges?
HCAS offers wide range of exposure to students towards social work. The students are given opportunities to undergo professional internship programme in well reputed social welfare organisations, both in private and Government sectors. As we have international MoUs we encourage and help our student to attend International student internships and summer programme.
