Mathematics is called as the “Queen of all Sciences” till today. The invasion of Mathematics in Engineering and Technology and even in the fields of Arts, Economics and Commerce has forced academicians in all walks of life to regard Mathematics as the “Queen of all Sciences”, “King of all Arts” and “the mother of Engineering & Technology”. Mathematics, the foundation of all sciences is a subject which offers limitless scope for diversification in higher education. The improvements and achievements in various fields are the gift of Mathematics. The world of education without Mathematics would be non-existent. The fields of Information Technology, Social Research and Economic forecasts will not be successful but for the effective application of Mathematics. The demand for courses in Mathematics is bound to be consistent, continual and increasing.
A strong foundation in Mathematics, effective thinking and communication skills need to succeed in any technical endeavor. Whether it is physical or social sciences, education, law, business, medicine or government, a math degree will take you anywhere.
At HCAS, Mathematics learning experience extends far beyond the classroom. Our students attend and present at National Math Conferences. They are allowed to attend the programs and internships sponsored by various Science Foundations.
Math Education program is a regional leader in mathematics education. 100 percent of our math alumni are employed as Math teachers. Our program is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as the gold standard in Higher education.
The course has been designed keeping in mind the desirable characteristics of a competent Computer Professional. They are as follows: Communication skills - To be achieved through Seminars by students Logical and numerical ability - To be achieved through solving problems in different topics and Programming Knowledge of computers. The course provides a sound academic base through which an advanced career in Mathematics and Computer Application can be developed. The graduates can start their career as junior programmers and get promoted to the project managers in the IT field and also in higher studies.

Astronomy is a natural science that deals with celestial objects and its phenomena. In which we applies mathematics, physics and chemistry in an effort to explain the origin of these objects of interest which includes planets, moons, stars, galaxies and comets. More generally all phenomena that originate outside earth’s atmosphere are within the purview of astronomy.
Professional astronomy is split into observational and theoretical branches. Observational astronomy is focused on accruing data from observation of astronomical objects. Theoretical astronomy is oriented towards the development of computer or analytical models to describe astronomical objects in phenomena.
Astronomy is one of the oldest fields of science. It deals with the study of Universe and of the objects like sun, moon, stars, planets, comets, gas, galaxies, gas, dust and other non-earthy bodies. It is also a multidisciplinary subject that deals with the study of science with physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, geology and biology. Astronomy is necessarily an observational science rather than an experimental one. The discussions and interpretation of observations employ the use of Mathematical Analysis, often of the most advanced type. It is desirable for a student to acquire proficiency in physics and mathematics at the graduate level and then to Astronomy & Astrophysics specialization.
In this ad on course we focus with basic mathematical spherical trigonometry which is majorly involves in Mathematical Analysis of Astronomical observations and some simple problems related to it.
Duration: 20 Hrs
Timing: 3:15 pm – 4:15 pm
Fee: Rs. 500/ Per Head
Students can do Masters in Astronomy & Job opportunities are in the government institutions such as ISRO and DRDO.
After the successful completion of course duration and examination conducted by department of mathematics, a certificate on Basic Knowledge in Astronomy will be issued to the candidates.
Mathematics provides an excellent foundation for a variety of work and ministry opportunities. Our department’s traditional strengths have been providing very successful teachers at secondary education, undergraduate level and they are also good programmers in IT field. Also many opportunities are continuously unfolding in a variety of exciting interdisciplinary areas. A Math major from HCAS (affiliated to University of Madras) can go to any region of the country (and in many parts of the world) and can get placed into excellent positions. The demand is great for excellent teachers and researchers in the field of Mathematics.
The Mathematics major prepares you for the graduate study in Mathematics, Mathematical physics or a Mathematics related area that relies heavily upon theoretical mathematics. If your career goal is to teach at a school or college or university or to become a member of a research team in government or industry, then, you may want to consider this major.
The Computational Mathematics equips you to enter the workplace directly. For example, you could enter the field of Statistics, Management science, Operation research, Actuarial science or Biometrics.
The Financial Mathematics gives you the technical skills to perform financial and economic analyses. Professional opportunities for Actuaries are always near the top of the employment projections. The continued spread of free-market economies increases the potential for these graduates to have an international impact.
Applicant should have a Higher Secondary Schooling with Maths/Physics/ Chemistry Statistics/Computer Science or an equivalent level of schooling (like CBSE, ISC, etc).
