Memorandum of Understanding

The Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Chennai signed an MOU with PAC University, Nairobi, Kenya on 10th November 2020. The MoU was virtually signed by Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director, Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Chennai and Prof. Margaret J Muthwii, Vice-Chancellor, PAC University. The other present were Dr. S. Thirumagan, Principal, HCAS, Dr. V, J. Philip, Deputy Director – HCAS, Mr. Samuel Sampath Kumar, Vice Principal-HCAS and Dr. R. Sakthi Prabha, Dean & Head, Department of Social Work, HCAS.

The two institutions agree to pursue cooperation to

  • Encourage exchange and visits in the categories of UG & PG students
  • Exchange information and materials in fields of interest of both the institutions
  • Joint supervision of Master and Ph.D. students
  • Joint training workshops, international conferences and publication of papers.
  • Student internship programmes

Frequently Asked Questions

Social work is a professional degree which equips the students to understand various methods, values, principles and practices of social work in different settings. It make students more confident, compassionate, creative and to be more socially responsible towards people in the society.

The department offers Under Graduation and Post Graduation in social work.

Bachelor of Social Work is a professional under graduate degree course, which aims at providing quality education in the area of social work. It is a three-year course consisting of six semesters with field work practicum, an experiential component of the social work program, with student observations of social agencies, hands-on learning and other experiential learning throughout the students’ academic career.

Students should have passed the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary or equivalent examination, in any group with working knowledge of Tamil. Candidates from Boards other than Tamil Nadu State Board, CBSE, ISCE, Private study and Open Schooling must produce an Eligibility Certificate from the University of Madras.

The course module is comprehensive and has papers varying from social sciences, sociology, psychology, economics, political science, public health, community development, and law. The course module includes the Languages & English with Core Papers and Field Work Practicum

HCAS offers wide range of exposure to students towards social work. The students are given opportunities to undergo professional internship programme in well reputed social welfare organisations, both in private and Government sectors. As we have international MoUs we encourage and help our student to attend International student internships and summer programme.

As the BSW is a generic course, the students can get job opportunities such as:

Yes. The degree is affiliated to University of Madras which is recognized internationally. The students can join various international social work forums which will help them to pursue higher education in abroad and understand both local and global perspective in social work.
