National Service Scheme

NSS i.e. National Service Scheme Volunteer gets benefit of marks and Certificate of completing 2-years NSS activities, from the respective university. The minimum requirement for this benefit is completion of 240 hours in two academic years, (120 hours in each year) and a seven day residential camp (special camp).NSS Volunteers do social service in adopted village during the camp. The social service activities such child and adult education, construction of garbage pits, soak pits, chock dams,health check-up camp, tree plantation etc. according to requirement of work in the adopted area.The camp is organized in such a way that volunteer learns discipline, togetherness and unity, self-actualization, confidence, motivation and sensitivity towards the society. Every NSS Volunteer experience this camp as an unforgettable experience that everyone should attend once in life. This camp is for 7 days (residential), however, it is not included in 240 hours. Apart from the special camp, there are some camps at University, State, National and International level such as Youth Exchange Program, National Republic Day Parade Camp, National Integration Camp, Adventure Camp, Mega Camp etc., where interested volunteers can participate.

National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme is a student – centered programme and it is complementary to education. It is a noble experiment in academic extension. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among students and teachers through sustained community interaction. It brings our academic institutions closer to the society. It is a link between the campus and community, the college and village, knowledge and action. The overall aim of NSS is the Personality Development of students through community service. It gives an extension dimension to Higher Education system and orients the student youth to community service. National Service Scheme, popularly known as NSS, was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation. Starting with an enrolment of 40000 students in 37 Universities covering all states, the coverage of NSS students increased to about 26.6 lakhs (2006-07) in 198 Universities, 9117 colleges,1196 Technical Institutions, 7542 Plus Two Schools and 41 Plus Two Vocational Higher Secondary Directorates. During its 39 years of fruitful existence more than 2.7crore students have so far benefited from this largest student-volunteer ship programme in the world.

NSS BADGE

The NSS symbol is embossed on the NSS badge. The NSS volunteers wear it while undertaking any programme of community service. The Konark wheel in the symbol has eight bars which represent the 24 hours of the day. The Red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood. i.e. lively, active energetic and full of high spirit. The Navy Blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of mankind.

 

NSS DAY

NSS was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation. 24 September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programmes & activities.

 

NSS LOGO

The symbol of the NSS is based on the ‘Rath’ wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space. It stands for community as well as change and implies the continuous  triving of National Service Scheme for social transformation & upliftment.

 

NSS MOTTO

The motto of NSS is ‘NOT Me But You’. This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 11th January 2023 at 9:45 AM in Padur Periyakulam, chennai, A pond cleaning camp was held This camp was co-ordinate by NSS programme officers DR. L. Krishnasamy, Mrs. A. Udhayabanu and NSS units. This pond cleaning was organised for a new scheme of Restoration of the pond.

 

REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

ABOUT THIS EVENT: The 74th Republic day was celebrated at Hindustan College of Arts & Science in all it’s grandeur. The program began at 8.30 a.m. in the gracious presence of Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan and Vice Principal (Admin) Mr. Samuel Sampathkumar and Vice Principal (Academics & Research) Dr. S. Illanjiam, Dr. S. Thirumagan, Principal welcomed the guest. Dr. L. Krishnasamy, NSS Programme Officer introduced the guest. The Chief Guest of the day Mr. Vetry Chezhiyan, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Section—Chennai unfurled the national flag. He insisted on a drug free state for the healthy growth of the younger generation. The NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and staff took part with pride. An array of cultural events like classical dance, Oyilaatam, Silambam were exhibited by the students. The parade presided by the NSS and NCC cadets was widely appreciated. The day came to an end as Vice Principal (Admin) Mr. Samuel Sampathkumar proposed a vote of thanks. The celebration organised by NSS programme officers Dr.Krishnasamy and Mrs. Udhayabanu reverberated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.

 

KELAMBAKKAM SCHOOL CLEANING DRIVE

DATE: 14th FEBRUARY 2023

VENUE: Government Higher Secondary School, Kelambakkam.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: The NSS Units of Hindustan College of Arts & Science Cleaned the premises of Kelambakkam Govt. school and a new smart classroom was instituted by the management for the students of the school.

 

MOTORBIKE RALLY

DATE: 18th FEBRUARY 2023

VENUE: From Labour Statue, KamarajSalai (Marina Beach Road), via Walaja Road, Anna Salai Radhakrishnan Salai to Light House.

OBJECTIVES: To Create an awareness on the usage of helmets.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: Our college and Greater Chennai Traffic Police organised a motorbike rally on 18th February 2023 at 08 AM from Labor Statue, Kamarajar Road (Marina Beach Road), Walaja Road, Anna salai Radhakrishnan Road to LightHouse. The main objective of this rally is to create awareness about the usage of helmets. So, 200 students on 100 bikes (including pillion riders) participated in the rally wearing helmets.Each department identified at least 10 students with motorbikes and helmets and registered their names with driving licence and vehicle number before 13th February 2023 with their respective class teachers.

A staff group was constituted for the successful conduct of the rally. The students and faculty gathered at the spot on time and the rallying started without any delay.

he rally was inaugurated by Mr. Thiru. Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar, IPS along with Thiru. N.M. Mayilvahanan, IPS Joint Commissioner of Police and Traffic (South), Thiru. Samay Singh Meena, IPS, DCP Traffic (East), Greater Chennai Police.

Dr. Susan Verghese, Director of Hindustan College of Arts & Science was the Special Guest. The program was organised by Mr. Kishore, CEO of Liaison Enterprise, and was coordinated by Mr. Samuel Sampath Kumar, Vice-Principal of HCAS. Dr. L. Krishnasamy, NSS Coordinator was the Convenor of this Bike Rally.

 

 

Coastal cleaning camp

DATE: 17 MARCH 2023

VENUE: Kovalam beach, chennai.

OBJECTIVES: To Create an awareness on the usage of helmets.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 17th March 2023 at 7:00 AM, a cleaning camp was held at Kovalam Beach. The waste was collected and segregated along the coastal line. The local people were made aware on the need for a clean beach for survival of organisms in sea.

 

VIZHITTELU MOVIE ON SCHOOL

DATE: 23 MARCH 2023

VENUE: Government School, Padur, Chennai.

OBJECTIVES: To Create an awareness on the usage of helmets.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: Our college NSS units screened a movie in Padur Government School on 23 March 2023. Five NSS students are telecasting the movie for school students. Traditional classroom teaching alone cannot motivate every student. Given that children love entertainment, inspirational movies are an effective and easy medium to motivate them. The movie emphasised the need to be aware of the dangers social media could pose.

WORLD BICYCLE DAY

DATE: 3 JUNE 2022

VENUE: From Kelambakkam to Kovalam.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On this World Cycle Day 2022 i.e., 3rd of June.

India's largest youth organisations NYKS and NSS under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, under the banner ‘Fit India Movement’ gave an opportunity for Indians to celebrate Freedom through a week-long festival of cycling, where monuments / places related to India's independence will be visited on cycle as a tribute to our freedom fighters -“AzadiKaAmritMahotsavManaye, Chalo Cycle Chalaye”.

"Uniqueness, versatility, and longevity of the bicycle as a simple,sustainable, economical, and reliable mode of transportation is the theme of World Bicycle Day’ 22. With this in mind, the rally started from Padur Crossroad and the NSS volunteers travelled through Kovalam and Kelambakkam. Dr. S. Thirumagan, Principal of HCAS flagged off the rally and took part actively beside the volunteers. NSS Programme Officer Dr. L. Krishnasamy and Mrs. A. Udhayabanu organised the rally effectively. Around 28 Volunteers Participated in the rally with full energy.

 

 

FAREWELL CELEBRATION

DATE: 3 June 2022

VENUE: Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Padur, Chennai.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: Farewell is basically a get together kind of celebration for the seniors who will be soon stepping out of a particular institution. Hence juniors wish their seniors ‘Good luck’ for their next big adventures in various forms. They also entertain them with performances like singing and dancing. They give  motivational speeches and felicitate their seniors. Our NSS unit conducted the farewell program to our passed-out seniors. We arranged the NSS room for the ceremony. The farewell event began with a prayer song, followed by our seniors speaking about their NSS experiences and we gave them gifts in honour. Dance and singing performances were done by NSS volunteers and the badges were distributed to New NSS Whistlers.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

DATE: 18 June 2022

VENUE: University of Madras, Chennai.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: Volunteers went to the University of Madras for a practice session of World Yoga Day. The practice session started at 10am at the Senate Hall, other college members were also present. Yoga is a way to discover the combination of physical and mental exercises that for thousands of years have hooked yoga practitioners around the globe. We all learned 10 yoga asanas. This session ended at 11:30am.

 

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

DATE: 21 JUNE 2022

VENUE: Raj Bhavan, Chennai.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: The International Yoga Day was celebrated at Raj Bhavan. R. N. Ravi, Governor of Tamil Nadu, presided over the International Yoga Day celebration. He joined thousands of youth from universities, schools and institutions in the demonstration of various asanas and meditation. The session was held between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. by yoga teachers from Isha Foundation and Art of Living. This year the theme for the celebration is "Yoga for Humanity”. NSS volunteers from our college attended the Governor's Yoga Festival. 7 of the volunteers attended this yoga festival. For that we had to demonstrate for a rehearsal at Raj Bhavan on 20thJune 2022. The Volunteers were assembled at the University of Madras around 2:30 p.m. from where they were taken to Raj Bhavan with NSS programme officers. The Volunteers reached Raj Bhavan at 4:30 p.m. and demonstrated the proceedings on World Yoga Day with guidelines of yoga masters. The session ended at 6:30p.m. The next day the Honourable Governor arrived at 7 a.m. and the event began by 7.30 a.m. The Volunteers demonstrated various yogas. In his presidential address, the Governor said that including Yoga in one’s daily routine would give proper balance to both mental and physical activities. He called upon the people of the state to become regulars in practicing Yoga which is now practiced across the globe. The program came to an end at 9 a.m. The Volunteers were provided with breakfast thereafter.

 

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

VENUE: Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Padur, Chennai.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: Our NSS units conducted yoga sessions in Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Padur, Chennai. Volunteers were assembled in Dr. K. C. G Knowledge Centre at 8:00 a.m. with the Programme Officer Dr. L. Krishnasamy. This year the theme for the celebration is "Yoga for humanity”. The event started at 8:00 a.m. Our NSS coordinator taught us yoga. The beauty of yoga is that you don’t have to be a yogi or yogini to reap the benefits. Whether you are young or old, overweight or fit, yoga has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body. Don’t be intimidated by yoga terminology, fancy yoga studios and complicated poses. Yoga is for everyone. Move slowly in each pose, remembering to breathe as you move. Stop after any pose that challenges you, especially if you have shortness of breath and start again when your breathing returns to normal. We gladly learned it all. The program ended at around 9:00 a.m.

 

INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

OBJECTIVES: To spread awareness about drug abuse.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: The main aim of this day is to spread awareness about the physical and psychological impact of substance abuse, drug overdose deaths, and drugs-related problems across the globe. The international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, or world drug day, is marked on 26 June every year, to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving the goal of a world free of drug abuse. This year the theme is "addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises". The focus of the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) is to spread awareness about it so that a world free of drug abuse can be created, the Motive is to fight off misinformation by sharing facts and by providing methods of treatment, prevention and care. "And each year, individuals like yourself, entire communities, and various organisations all over the world will join in to observe world drug day to help us raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs pose to society. Together, we can tackle the world’s drug problem. This is to share the awareness on drug abuse and to save lives. The theme of the 2022 International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is to promote the awareness of drugs- from health risk and solutions to tackle the world from drug problems.

 

NATIONAL DOCTORS DAY

OBJECTIVES: To Motivate Our people to know how the Doctors work in hard situations to our people.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: India celebrates National Doctor's Day on July 1st Every year to honour the birth and death anniversary of great physician and second chief minister of West Bengal Dr. Bidhanchandra Roy. On July 1st National Doctor's day is celebrated by our NSS Units with events such as meme creation and  motivational speech about doctors. This event was conducted through online mode.

 

INTERNATIONAL PLASTIC BAG FREE DAY

DATE: 3 JULY 2022

VENUE: Online

OBJECTIVES: Say no to plastic

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 3 July, Our NSS units gave a announcement of #SAY NOT TO PLASTIC event about “INTERNATIONAL BAG FREE DAY “to create an awareness of avoiding plastic bags, Using eco-friendly bags. Zero Waste Europe established the international bag free day in 2009, with an aim to raise  awareness about the issue of plastic pollution and its harmful impact on the natural environment. Plastic waste is dumped in landfills and proves harmful to the marine creatures if it gets washed into oceans. The day aims to draw attention towards such harmful effects, as it takes around 100-500 years for plastic bags to decompose. To promote environmental conservation by encouraging all to stay away from the use of plastic bags and instead look for more eco-friendly items such as paper or cloth bags instead of plastic bags so that we can ultimately eliminate the use of plastic bags.

 

WORLD POPULATION DAY

DATE: 11 July 2022

VENUE: Padurvillege, Chennai.

OBJECTIVES: To achieve a stable population at a level consistent with the requirements of sustainable

economic growth, social development, and environmental protection.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 11 July 2022, world population Day was held and census was taken by the Volunteers at Padur village. For that event we split the volunteers as a team under the guidance of seniors. There were 10 teams and 50-60 residents were in the count. Our NSS programme officers Dr.L. Krishnasamy and Mrs. A.Udhayabanu were present.

 

INTERNATIONAL PAPER BAG DAY

DATE: 12 July 2022

VENUE: Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Padur, Chennai.

OBJECTIVES: To spread awareness on the use of the environment-friendly alternative to harmful plastic bags.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 12th of July 2022, Paper Bag Day was conducted by our NSS unit at HCAS campus by providing a paper bag to College staff and housekeeping as a token of ideas about reducing the plastic usage. Nearly 15 members participated and made a handmade paper bag by themselves using  newspapers and chart papers. World Paper Bag Day is observed on July 12 every year to spread awareness about plastic pollution and encourage the use of environment-friendly alternatives. Use of paper bags, which are easily recyclable, will help in reducing plastic waste that takes years to decompose, causing environment pollution. Our NSS Programme officers Dr.L.Krishnasamy and Mrs. A.Udhayabanu graced the event.

 

THE ELIXIR OF INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION 75th AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV

OBJECTIVES: Celebrating 75 Years of India's Independence.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 25 July 2022, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a series of events organised by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence. The Mahotsav is being celebrated as a Jan-Utsav in the spirit of Jan-Bhagidari. Our NSS volunteers participated in cultural programs. This Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in its evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. India celebrates its 75th Independence Day this year (2022). Several events have been planned ahead to mark the celebrations. Several initiatives were taken and programmers organised to make ndependence Day of India etched in the minds of those involved including common people. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this  initiative which he calls ” the elixir of energy of Independence”, “elixir of inspirations” of freedom fighters, “elixir of new ideas” and “elixir of Atma Nirbharta”.

 

KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS

VENUE: Main block, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Padur.

OBJECTIVES: Remembering the pride and courage of the Indian Army.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: Every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas marks India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War. The Indian Army had ousted Pakistani forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops of Northern Kargil District in Ladakh in 1999.This year marks the 23rd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Divas. KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS was celebrated in our college on july 26th at sea view block around 3:30pm. Our NSS volunteers acted in mime. Through Mime, our NSS volunteers saluted all our brave soldiers who protect us day and night and remembered their struggles and toils on this day

 

WORLD NATURE CONSERVATION DAY

DATE: 28 JULY 2022

VENUE: Online

OBJECTIVES: To secure our nature

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On account of world nature conservation day, NSS team planted sampling. Saplings were planted in their homes by our volunteers. Nearly 24 members participated in the event. Observed on July 28th annually, World Nature Conservation Day acknowledges that a healthy environment is the  foundation for a stable and healthy society. Conservation is similar to preservation, but while both relate to the protection of nature, they strive to accomplish this task in different ways. Conservation seeks the activities such as hunting, logging or mining, while preservation means protecting nature from human use.

 

LET’S READ TOGETHER - 75th AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 04.08.2022 the book reading event was conducted by our NSS unit under azadikaamritmahotsavaround 3.00pm to 4.00pm. Our NSS programme officers Dr.L.Krishnasamy and Mrs. A.Udhayabanu organised the event meticulously. Nearly 24 members participated in the event and won the prizes.

DIGITAL JYOT - 75th AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 10th August 2022 Our NSS board of officials gave an announcement in the NSS officials group for the Digital Jyot event for AzadikaAmritmahotsav. It is an online event and the event was organised by the Indian government and they gave a website link and volunteers used the link and registered their names in the webpage. This message of our tribute was flashed in the LED Screen in Central Park (Connaught Place) and will light the Digital flame. The main motive of this event is to pay tribute to the martyrs of the freedom struggle.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 12 August 2022, the speech and Quizevents were conducted by our NSS units under Azadi ka amrit mahotsav. Our NSS programme officer Dr.L.Krishnasamy and Mrs. A. To unite the nation in the tricolour, the ‘HarGharTiranga’ campaign, under the aegis of ‘AzadiKaAmritMahotsav’ is underway. Indians across the country are on a spree to procure and hoist the tricolour in their homes, establishments, localities and offices. Our volunteers placed the flag at work desk and paid their homage. SINGING OF NATIONAL ANTHEM - AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV

OBJECTIVES: Let’s sing the national anthem.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: As part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to celebrate 75 years of Independence, the Union government has launched a website- rashtragaan.in where students can upload their ‘individual rendering’ of the National Anthem. Earlier, the University Grants Commission has issued a notification informing colleges and universities to take part in several activities including singing RashtraGaan or the National Anthem together. The official YouTube page of MyGov India shared a video titled ‘Let Us Sing The National Anthem’, giving step-by-step instructions on how to participate.Our NSS units arranged to sing the national  anthem. 100 NSS volunteers participated in it. Principal of Our college Dr. S. Thirumagan and Vice Principal Mr. Samuel Sampathkumar were also present.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: Independence Day celebration in College is a day where students, faculties and staff pay tribute to the Nation and the freedom fighters of India. India’s Independence Day is celebrated on 15th August every year. As part of Freedom 75th Independence Day celebrations in our college NSS volunteers participated in the parade. Our Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan and Chief Guest of the event Dr. S. Ramanathan, Principal, Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science and Syndicate Member, University of Madras hoisted our National Flag and delivered the Independence Day address.

Vice Principal (Admin) Mr. Samuel Sampathkumar and Vice Principal (Academics) Dr. Illanjiam honoured the occasion with their presence and over 90  volunteers took pledge against drug usage.

 

INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY DAY

OBJECTIVES: To inspire more and more photographers, both experts and amateurs, to talk about a

profession that is a fine blend of art and technology.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 19th August 2022, the photography competition was conducted by our NSS unit. Every year, World Photography Day is observed on August 19th to celebrate this beautiful art. On this day, photography enthusiasts come together to celebrate this beautiful art. The devices used for taking  photographs have gone through dramatic developments in technology. But the essence and language of photography has remained the same. Photography is a wonderful way to capture and immortalise the moments. As cameras have become cheaper with evolution, taking photos is no longer an art and it’s only enjoyed by a few privileged. Smartphone cameras are also very powerful these days. If one is skilled enough, he or she can click professional photos using just a phone. Nearly 12 volunteers participated and won the prizes.

 

WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY

World Humanitarian Day is commemorated every year on 19 August to pay tribute to humanitarian workers killed and injured in the course of their work, and to honour all aid and health workers who continue, despite the odds, to provide life-saving support and protection to people most in need. Nearly 8 members participated and won the prizes.

GANDHI JAYANTHI

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a bicycle rally was held in Chennai. A Bicycle rally was organised by the NSS Units of Queen Mary's College, Mylapore. Minister S.S. garlanded the statue of Gandhi on the beach road. Thirunavukarasu flagged off the cycle rally. Hundreds of school students participated in this cycle rally. The cycle rally started from Beach Road and ended at Gandhi Mandapam in Guindy. Earlier, many political party leaders garlanded the statue of Gandhi.The NSS volunteers travelled through Kovalam and Kelambakkam.

 

NSS DAY CELEBRATION & ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

ABOUT THIS EVENT: NSS day was celebrated in our college on 13th October 2022 at Newton Hall around 2pm. Mr. Baluprakasam, former president of Madras Mount Rotary Club was the chief guest. The celebration started with prayer song followed by orientation programme, cultural programme by NSS volunteers. On account of NSS day many events were conducted such as RJ hunt, Face painting, Traditional dance, Adapt tune and Drawing or Sand art all over the College. Students from various department participated in those events and won prizes. Certificates and prizes were distributed to NSS day competition winners. The celebration came to an end with the National Anthem. NSS Programme Officers Dr. L. Krishnasamy and Mrs. A. Udhayabanu appreciated the NSS Volunteers who paved the way for the smooth conduct of the event.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On 31st October 2022 at 12:15 PM in Hindustan College of Arts & science, Padur, chennai, the National unity day was observed. The observance is a fitting tribute to the great son of India SardarVallabhbhai Patel who played a pivotal role in the unification of independent India. The essence and spirit of unity and its reiteration among people in general and youth in particular needs to be disseminated on a regular basis so that the coming generations not only get the feel and importance of national unity but they should also get to know the freedom fighters and leaders who made supreme sacrifices to uphold the integrity of the country. The aim was to generate awareness among citizens about the essence of national unity and inculcate the spirit of fraternity and togetherness in the midst of diversity. Also, to propagate the message among citizens and popularise the ethos of staying healthy and fit through regular physical activities such as running.

The NSS volunteer took pledge on that day to generate awareness and ensure maximum participation from the people in the Run for Unity.

 

LAKE WALK AND SEED PLANTATION

DATE: 19th NOVEMBER 2022

OBJECTIVES: To increase agricultural production through spread of good quality seed of high yielding varieties developed by the plant breeders, well before the planting season at reasonable cost.

ABOUT THIS EVENT: On November 19th at 3 PM our NSS team planted seeds at Vannan Lake, Kelambakkam. A total of 48 varieties of seeds were planted. All the students planted the seeds very happily and enthusiastically. The event was organised by India and Her Environment Volunteer E.F.I.

 

INDIAN CONSTITUTION DAY

ABOUT THIS EVENT: The NSS Units of Hindustan College of Arts & Science observed Indian Constitution Day on 26th November 2022. Digital poster making contest was organised with themes like Justice, Equality, Liberty and Fraternity. Students participated with great enthusiasm. A Discussion was held on constitutional rights and duties. The preamble of the Constitution was read out and the same was displayed at the NSS unit. NSS Programme Officers Dr. L. Krishnasamy and Mrs. A. Udhayabanu motivated the students to be aware of the Constitutional rights and duties.

Thirumagan and Vice Principal (Admin) Mr. Samuel Sampathkumar and Vice Principal (Academics & Research) Dr. S. Illanjiam, Dr. S. Thirumagan, Principal welcomed the guest. Dr. L. Krishnasamy, NSS Programme Officer introduced the guest.

Our studentH. ARAVINDAN (NSS Volunteer, U21CR112, B.COM(CS)Dept) got selected and attended the South Zone PRD Parade Camp 2022 conducted at Swami Saswathikananda College, Poothotta during 09- 18 November 2022. The Camp was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Sabu Thomas (Hon. Vice Chancellor, M G University). Ceremony was followed by greetings from program coordinator of MG University, College Principal and POs of SS College Poothotta. After the ceremony a cultural program was conducted.

The volunteers were imparted training in leadership development, and (March-Past) parade apart from attending various socio-cultural programmes.

REBUPLIC DAY CELEBRATION (RDC)

NSS Volunteer Ms. Meenu from our college participated in the Republic Day Celebration (RDC) organized every year in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, Government of India.  Around 200 NSS participants and 20 NSS programme officers from 14 states  participated in the camp. They were given an opportunity to interact with the President, Prime Minister and other Ministers.

 

73rd REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

PERUMBAKKAM EDUCATION RALLY

NATIONAL INTEGRATION CAMP (NIC)

A six days National Integration Camp (NIC) was organised at S.S. Jain Subod P.G (Autonomous) College, Jaipur. Affiliated to the University of Rajasthan. Ms. K. Bhavani, a volunteer from our college took part in it. Around 200 NSS volunteers and 20 NSS programme officers from 14 states  participated in the camp from 20th March 2021 to 26th March 2021. NSS NIC events include technical sessions on life-skills, self-defence, literary competitions, cultural programmes, adventure sports, Yoga camp, first aid/home nursing training, lectures by various resource persons on different region and religion.

FIT India Mission has conceptualized FIT INDIA FREEDOM RUN 2.0 to commemorate the 75th Independence Day - "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav". Fit India freedom run 2.0 Marathon was conducted at Chengalpattu district collectorate. It was conducted by Sports development authority of Tamil Nadu. Our NSS volunteers actively participated in this event and gave their best in the marathon since everyone who participated in this event is a fitness freak.

 

COVID - 19 VACCINATION

A COVID 19 Vaccination camp was organized at the campus with the help of TN Government PHC, Kelambakkam. This Covid-19 vaccination camp was held for the people of 18 years and above. The vaccine administered was Covishield. More than 90 people were vaccinated including the college students, staff members and their family.

 

PLANTATION EVENT

On account of 53rd NSS day, NSS team planted saplings. The sapling was planted by our college principal, college staffs, NSS secretaries and NSS volunteers as per the instructions by the University of Madras. The NSS volunteers pledged that they would look after that sapling and also other trees and plants in our college and plant more and more trees.

NSS day was celebrated in our college on October 11th in Newton Hall at 2:00p.m. Ms. Durga Das, CEO of Aeronero Solution was the chief guest. The celebration started with a prayer song followed by cultural programmes of the NSS volunteers. Batches and Whistle were distributed to NSS secretaries and Whistlers. On account of NSS day many events were conducted such as singing, dance, drawing and RJ hunt all over the College. Many students participated in those events and won prizes. Certificates were distributed to them.

 

A. P. J. ABDUL KALAM BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

The principal, teachers and students paid their respects by offering flowers to the potrait of Dr.Kalam. The enthusiasm of the students was evident in their celebration of Dr. Kalam’s birthday. Students expressed their feelings through charts, speeches in Tamil and English. One of our faculty members too delivered a speech. Many events such as quiz, speech, drawing were organised on account of Kalam's birthday. Finally, the winners and runners of the events received their certificates.

 

HCAS CAMPUS CLEANING

To spread awareness about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan “CLEAN INDIA”, The NSS volunteers guided by 3rd year NSS volunteers removed all garbage from the college premises and pledged to throw waste only into dustbins. 10 Team of volunteers armed with brooms and dustbins energetically collected garbage. Thus, the whole college took a small step towards a big goal. It was a great experience and NSS volunteers played a vital role in it.

Our NSS unit and Smart Vision Clinic, Adyar organized a free medical camp at kelambakkam community welfare hall from 9.30am to 2.00pm. Medical service like blood test, sugar test, blood pressure, eye test, dental, Vaccination and general test were provided by the hospital which was beneficial for the down trodden people. More than 200 people were benefited by this camp.

Tamil development department conducted an elocution competition on Jawaharlal Nehru birthday at Chengalpattu district Collectorate. Our students cleared two levels and received certificates from collector.

BHARATHIYAR BIRTHDAY RALLY

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Mahakavi Bharathiyar, a pioneer of Modern Tamil Poetry, a rally was organized on 11.12.2019 at University of Madras. Advisor, Staff and Students spoke about the life history of the great poet.

 

COASTAL CLEANING CAMP AT KOVALAM

We, the NSS volunteers who always care about the nation’s cleanliness took the Swachh Bharath Abhiyan (Clean India mission) as the motivation and cleaned the waste, plastic bottles, papers, tin etc., in the Kovalam coastal area.   Each group consists of 5 to 6 volunteers. We collected around 20 bags of wastage in and around the coastal area. Volunteers received certificates eventually.

 

WALL PAINTING

Wall painting is all about making the children creative and making them aware of cleanliness. Over 5 to 6 pictures highlighting nature and school environment were painted.
