The Department of Electronic Media established in the year 2003, offers a three year Under-graduate programme – B.Sc. Electronic Media. The course, affiliated to University of Madras is widely sought after by students aspiring to be in the media industry.
The course aims at providing technical excellence in communication studies through various facets of media. Students are given a detailed and practical oriented training on electronic media – audio, video and multi-media. The course equips the students to compose, edit and create programs and provides a hands-on experience in Radio and Television Production.
In the first year, the students are trained through various stages of radio production. In the second year, the students learn about videography and video editing at both theoretical and practical levels. The students are also trained in script writing, film studies, acting and directing. In the final year, the students are trained to combine their knowledge and creative ideas to be able to master the art of professional film making. The students are also additionally given theory based knowledge on animation and graphics. Television Production Management also helps the student to produce a show on all bases. End of the course, the students are on their own making their own Radio Programmes, Sound Mixing, TV Programmes, Short Films, Ad Film, PSA and Documentaries.
PO1. Students should be able to learn and apply various creative techniques and critical thinking methods in media production and problem solving.
PO2. Students will be able to learn necessary skills required to produce various aspects of media content such as scripting, writing, direction and cinematography, for different mediums.
PO3. The student should be able to use the skills in the creative industry – be it television channels, information technology, public relations, or corporate communication.
PO4. The students should be able to simplify technical content in simple language and multimedia as part of technical communication.
PSO1. The students will be exposed to photography, videography, and direction skills.
PSO2. The students will be able to place in design, radio, Television, Film industry with the relevant and on experience.
PSO3. The students can plan, develop and implement communication for development projects at local, regional and global levels.

The Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with L.V. Prasad College of Media Studies, formerly known as L.V. Prasad Film and T.V. Academy on 15th March 2022 with the primary motive of being academic and creative partners. L.V. Prasad College of Media Studies has been imparting technical knowledge and practical experience by adopting modern and innovative techniques, thereby paving the path of development in the Indian Film Industry over the years.
The MoU shall provide opportunities for faculty and students of the Hindustan College of Arts and Science to visit the prestigious institute and to understand the working environment of the film industry production. The students would also be allowed to undergo an internship, experience the training programme, and organize and attend workshops pertaining to media and entertainment.
The department also signed an MoU on 27th January 2017 with Stone Bench Creations, a popular and successful film production company to explore knowledge sharing and industrial support in order to bridge the gap between the academy and the industry. The company offers workshops, film production guidance and internships to students.

Students will learn subjects regarding various media production forms, which includes practical learning combined with theoretical method, over a period of three years (6 semesters). Apart from the class room lectures, emphasis is mainly on practical aspects and therefore, it becomes more interesting and absorbing. The students tend to learn every aspect of media and also the art of film making. The department has well equipped studios where different programs like, Audio recording, Video recording, and all post production works are done mainly by the students. Not only this, the students are also sent to the fields to interview various celebrities and cover various events of importance.
