About the Department

English Literature is a glorious inheritance which is open to all-there are no barriers, no coupons, and no restrictions. So, be a part of it without any barricade!!

The department of English established in 2011, focuses on many areas such as Literature, Linguistics, Language, Education and a wide range of literature in British, American, and other World Literatures. Apart from Literature, technical papers like Grammar & Usage, and Journalism, enable the learners to articulate the relations among culture, history, and text of literature.

The department of English has a pivotal role to make students reach an advanced level of proficiency in English, as a support subject to other departments. The ultimate aim of the department is to provide a good communicative tool they need in order to be a successful user of English language. To add beauty to the crown, the underlying philosophy of the department is to inculcate literature, which in turn encourages and inspires them to lead a better life as a human being to create the best society.

Memorandum of Understanding

Staff Exchange Programme and Workshop on Malaysian Literature was organized as a part of MOU signed with the TARUMT, Malaysia from 21- 25 August 2023. Mrs. SashikalaSunmugam, Lecturer, TARUMT, Malaysia was the resource person. It paved a way for the students to be enlightened about the vast cultural differences and similarities of both the countries enriching their understanding about English Literature. The workshop demanded the active participation of the students resulting in a cultural exchange of ideas and ideologies.

An MoU was signed between TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE,MALAYSIA and HINDUSTAN COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCE, CHENNAI on 19th January 2022. Through this MoU, the department successfully conducted a webinar on Cultural Studies. The Department is looking forward to collaborate with them through staff exchange programme. Mr. Thilip Kumar Moorthy, Lecturer and Teaching Practicum Co-ordinator from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Malaysia visited our institution and addressed the students with his intellectual inputs. Subsequently, Mrs.J. Jabeela Shirlin, Head In-charge, Department of English visited TARUC, Malaysia for the same in the month of November.
